# Cover letter brief

Fill this in before you ask any AI tool for a draft. The specifics below are the
only thing standing between you and a letter that could have been sent to any
employer.

## The posting

- Employer and exact job title: [as written in the posting]
- Where you found it and the closing date: [source, date]
- Paste the full posting text here: [do not summarise it — paste it]
- The three requirements it repeats or leads with: [1, 2, 3]
- What the first six months of this job appear to be about: [one sentence]

## Who reads it

- Named hiring manager, or the team the role sits in: [name or team]
- Application route: [ATS form, email, referral, agency]
- Is a cover letter required, optional, or unmentioned: [answer]
- Any stated format or length limit: [answer]

## Your evidence

For each requirement above, one thing you personally did. Not a skill — an
event, with a date, a scale, and an outcome you can defend in an interview.

- Requirement 1 → [what you did, when, how big, what changed]
- Requirement 2 → [what you did, when, how big, what changed]
- Requirement 3 → [what you did, when, how big, what changed]
- The gap you cannot cover, and what you would say about it: [answer]

## Why this employer

- Something specific and checkable about them: [product, filing, release, paper,
policy change, news item — with the link]
- Why it matters to you in one honest sentence: [answer]
- Anyone you have spoken to there: [name and what they told you]

## Rules for the draft

- Use only the facts in this brief and my attached CV. Invent nothing.
- If a requirement has no evidence in this brief, say so instead of covering it.
- Three to four paragraphs, under one page.
- Plain sentences. No "passionate", "proven track record", "fast-paced",
"leverage", "dynamic", "excited for the opportunity".
- My voice: [paste two or three sentences you have actually written]
- Deliver an editable .docx named cover-letter-[employer].docx
