Plans and usage model

Cowork has no separate add-on price. Anthropic bundles it into every paid Claude plan. These are the current US list prices. Your checkout can differ by country, currency, tax, or app store.

The Team prices above require annual billing and at least two seats. Monthly billing raises Standard to $25 and Premium to $125 per user. Team and legacy seat-based Enterprise plans can add API-priced usage credits after their included limits.

Is Claude Cowork free?

No. Free Claude is not free Cowork

Anthropic's Free plan gives you Claude chat and can create files, including documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and PDFs. It does not include Cowork. Cowork starts on Pro and is also available on Max, Team, and Enterprise.

The real minimum is $20 per month

For one US user, Pro is the lowest-cost Cowork plan. Paying annually lowers the effective price to about $16.67 per month, but it commits $200 upfront. The subscription includes Cowork access, not unlimited use and not Claude API credit.

What the subscription includes

Pro and Max buy access plus capacity

Pro includes Cowork, Claude Code, priority access, and at least five times the per-session usage of Claude Free. Max buys larger session allowances. Anthropic describes Max 5x and Max 20x relative to Pro, not as fixed token pools and not as unlimited plans.

Cowork itself can handle local files, research, document generation, spreadsheets, presentations, and parallel workstreams. Availability varies by surface. Desktop supports local sessions. Anthropic is also rolling out cloud Cowork sessions on web and mobile, with plan and beta restrictions that can change.

Team buys administration

A Team Standard seat includes more session capacity than Pro, central billing, connectors, spend controls, identity controls, and Cowork. Premium seats raise capacity for heavy users. Enterprise adds more granular access and deployment controls, but usage may sit on top of the seat price.

Do not buy Team just to get Cowork for one person. Pro already has the feature. Buy Team when shared billing, workplace connectors, access policy, and usage visibility justify the two-seat minimum.

Usage limits can change the final cost

Pro usage resets on a five-hour session cycle and also has a weekly limit across models. Your practical capacity depends on message length, conversation history, file size, model, and feature. A long Cowork job with several files consumes more capacity than a short chat question.

Max and Team raise the allowance but keep limits. A “5x” plan means five times Pro capacity per session. It does not mean five times as many completed reports, and it does not remove the weekly ceiling.

Usage credits become the overage meter

Eligible paid users and organizations can enable usage credits. Once included limits run out, continued work draws from those credits at standard API rates. Team owners can place organization and individual spend limits on this usage.

This makes total cost a two-part equation: the recurring seat price plus any usage after the included limit. Track a normal week before upgrading everyone. Heavy users may need Max or Premium seats. Light users may never reach the Pro allowance.

Choose the cost model that matches your work

Subscription pricing fits steady use

Cowork's subscription makes sense when you delegate work every week and value its local access, scheduled tasks, connectors, or organization controls. Start with Pro for an individual. Move to Max after actual limits interrupt paid work. For teams, assign expensive seats to power users instead of upgrading everyone by default.

Pay per use fits irregular jobs

If your work arrives in bursts, compare a metered workspace. OpenCraft lets you start without an account, switch among hundreds of models, and pay for the models and tools you use instead of buying a monthly seat. Its model directory exposes current prices before you choose.
